Welcome to the 1766 Club

Since Dr John Addenbrooke left his original gift to establish the first voluntary hospital in Cambridge in 1766, significant donations have played a key role in the hospitals’ history.

To celebrate and continue this most honourable tradition, the 1766 Club was launched in 2010 for philanthropic and far-sighted individuals who are able to donate a personal annual gift of £1,000 or more.

Today these gifts will see ACT making a difference for patients across the hospitals where the need is greatest or most urgent. By shaping the hospitals’ future, these gifts will in time leave their own mark on history.

With thanks to all our members. Click here to see lists of 1766 Club members.

"As a consultant at Addenbrooke's since 1996, I feel that our achievements are the results of the combined effort of each individual at this world-class organisation. The reason for our success lies in our desire to look for opportunities to help others, without asking "What's in it for me?". That makes me a proud member of this great establishment - and equally proud to become a Founding Member of the 1766 Club."

Dr Basil Matta, Associate Medical Director, Cambridge University Hospitals
