Who we are
Addenbrooke’s Abroad was established in 2006, in response to the increasing recognition within the NHS and at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) that engaging with global health has remarkable benefits for patients and health care workers both overseas and here in the UK.
In 2009, Addenbrooke’s Abroad became a programme of Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) the dedicated charity making a difference for patients at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals in Cambridge.
“The NHS has ever growing demands on its resources, which is why the role of Addenbrooke’s Abroad is increasingly crucial. Addenbrooke’s Abroad enhances and supports the NHS, as volunteering overseas is a formative experience for our volunteers, giving them the chance to learn and apply new skills that in turn benefit the NHS and patients here at home.” David Wherrett, Chair of Addenbrooke’s Abroad and Director of Workforce, CUH
