Transforming facilities for cancer patients
Addenbrooke’s provides an excellent clinical service, with outcomes significantly above the national average.
However, current cancer facilities in the hospital are cramped and outdated and improvements are required. To properly address the problem, a considerable transformation is needed.
“The day unit is so crowded. You can hear every conversation at a time when you want peace, comfort and dignity. It’s a stressful time, so the environment has to be made pleasant. Without the excellent staff, you’d go off your trolley in there.”
Sue McArdell, Addenbrooke’s cancer patient.
The hospital is exploring ambitious plans which would not only allow for more space to do more of the same, they would transform cancer services, by creating a more dignified and informative environment and allowing clinicians and scientists to work side-by-side in translating the latest research discoveries into life-changing care and treatments.
