Bringing a ‘Touch of Sparkle’ to 1,000 cancer patients at Addenbrooke’s

A touch of sparkle has been brought to 1,000 cancer patients at Addenbrooke’s Hospital thanks to a group of kind-hearted Adam Lambert fans.

Touch of Sparkle care packs have been provided for cancer patients to help support them during treatment. The packs include practical items such as bed socks and tissues, distractions including puzzle books and playing cards and pamper items like moisturiser and lip balm.

Melanie Hersey, who leads Touch of Sparkle, said: “The idea is to spread a little care and humanity and try to lighten the load for patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery for cancer. By spreading a touch of sparkle we hope to lend a helping hand to those facing this difficult journey.”
Last week, after two years of providing the packs, Melanie presented the 1,000th care pack to Samantha Isaacson, who receives regular chemotherapy treatment at Addenbrooke’s for bowel cancer.

Items for the packs are donated by generous national, local and online businesses, and bought thanks to over £5,500 of donations to the cause.

Melanie aims to continue providing the packs for patients into the future.

Nicky Newton from Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust said: “We are so very grateful to Melanie and all the Touch of Sparkle contributors for their fantastic ongoing support. The packs really do make such a difference for all the patients who receive them.”
