Florence Marathon Success
On 29 November 2009 ACT supporters ran the Florence Marathon to raise an amazing £5,508 towards a permanent portable CT scanner for the Neurosciences department.
Sylvie Carter, recently ran the Florence Marathon in Italy to say thanks for the care that her sister, Fabienne Rose (Fab), received in the Neurosciences department for a brain aneurysm. Fab, aged 21, from Gaddesby in Leicestershire, is now fully recovered.
Sylvie, who completed the marathon with her husband, Justin, and friend Emma, said:
"Without the fantastic help from the team at Addenbrooke's... I really don't think that we would be the family that we are today. We really have so much to thank them for. Seeing how easy it can be to save a life with the right equipment...I would love for nobody to have to go through what we've all gone through, but that's not achievable....what is achievable is to make the team's job easier so that they can diagnose and treat quicker."
Fab said: "My parents, my boyfriend and I were there to watch and they did an amazing job! My sister, Sylvie, did it in 4hrs 39mins which was 30mins quicker than the London Marathon she did a few years back and Justin, my brother-in-law, did it in 4hrs 18mins, his first marathon! It was quite emotional at the finish line, I'm so glad we were there to watch!"
