Build A Robot competition 2022

Event Details

  • Date:

    01/02/2022 - 31/03/2022

  • Time:

    8:00 am - 12:00 am

Can you build a robot to help Addenbrooke’s buy a robot?

Enter our Build a Robot competition, support our appeal to buy Addenbrooke’s a surgical robot and help patients go home after surgery within days to help our NHS recover from the pressures caused by Covid-19.

Will you get creative and build your own robot from recycling at home or school? Enter the competition for your age group (under 8 years old, 8-13 years old, 14 years old and over or team entry)

You can enter for fun or ask your parents, grandparents, and friends to sponsor you. You could even do a collection to help us buy a surgical robot for the hospital. Winners will be featured in the Cambridge Independent newspaper and receive an Addenbrooke’s robot t-shirt!

How to build your robot

  1. Decide if you’re building your robot at home or at school – don’t forget to ask for permission
  2. Plan what your robot will look like and what it will be made of. Will it be able to do anything?
  3. Get all your materials together. Why not use the weekly recycling from your home or school?
  4. Get building and have fun! The surgical robot for Addenbrooke’s will help patients get home quicker. Does your robot have special powers?
  5. Take a photo of your robot and e-mail it to

    Remember to include

    • Your name (don’t forget to include all names if you are entering the team category)
    • Telephone number and e-mail address of a responsible adult/teacher (so we can let you know if you have won)
    • Which competition age category you are entering (under 8 years old, 8-13 years old, 14 years old and over or team category)
    • The name of the adult that has given you permission to enter the competition
    • The name of your school.
  6. Cross your fingers and wait to hear if you have won the competition. The closing date is 31 March 2022.

Ask your responsible adult to help us buy our very own surgical robot by:

  • Texting ROBOT followed by your donation amount to 70580 (i.e. ROBOT10 would donate £10 to our robot appeal.) Don’t forget to ask the bill payers permission
  • Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message, and you’ll be opting in to hearing more from us. If you would like to donate but don’t wish to hear more from us, please text ROBOTNOINFO followed by your donation amount to 70580 (i.e. ROBOTNOINFO10 would donate £10 to our robot appeal, and you would receive no further messages from us.)

We can’t wait to see your robot photos and we’ll be in touch to announce the winner after 31 March. Get building and good luck!
