    Our amazing fundraisers

    Reacting to a crisis

Our fundraisers regularly blow us away with their inventiveness, dedication and kindness. And never more so than in this current crisis. The cancellation of many events and the difficulties social distancing bring haven’t stopped them – they’ve just got more creative. Here are a just a few of the brilliant things that have been going on.

As a high risk patient advised to avoid crowds, Alexandra was unable to take part in a scheduled half marathon earlier this year. Instead she went the distance around her village. Having to then self isolate in her bedroom for 12 weeks hasn’t stopped her training for the next event though. She is now doing Joe Wicks PE lessons with her little boy… in separate rooms! Pop to her Instagram for some amazing inspiration and positivity.

Cambridge postie Becks Thoday is cheering up the neighbourhood by carrying out her postal deliveries in fancy dress and raising funds for our #NHSheroes at Addenbrooke's.

If you do see Becks out, make sure you give her a wave and you can also sponsor her at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/becks-thoday

ACT Volunteer Ambassador Kirsten Bailey dressed up as a different Disney characters every day for a month collecting sponsorship as part of this great challenge. Despite now being in isolation, Kirsten has continued with her challenge – here she is as Hades!

    The 2.6 challenge

In response to the cancellation of the Virgin Money London Marathon and thousands of events like it, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help our fundraising and save the UK’s charities - the 2.6 Challenge.

The challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing and remember to stay local.

So, from Sunday 26 April 2020, we are asking you to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 - find out more and sign up here!

The Parker family in Over recently got involved and completed 26 laps of their village green, whilst 'Swifty' fan Joe sang 26 Taylor Swift songs!

    Fundraising snippets:

We've seen a rise in home-based dodgy haircuts has seen plenty taking clippers into their own hands. ACT supporters Ben Woor and David Germon did it all for charity – thanks lads!

Orwell Football team have been using their hour of allocated exercise time throughout April to collectively run 1500 miles - they have hit over £1500.

Despite Cambridgeshire being a landlocked county ‘Isle ‘Ave A Shanty’, a 6 piece acapella male harmony group, have produced their charity fundraising sea shanty and are encouraging people to give to ACT, you can 'ave a listen here – it’s very catchy!

From one of our many Facebook fundraisers who has been asking for donations to ACT for her birthday:

"Addenbrooke’s trained me to be a Nurse, and helped me realise my life’s ambition, I am so very proud to be one of their number. More recently, I believe their management of the current crisis has been superb, and I feel fortunate to work there. I know that we all pay for the NHS indirectly, it is ‘our’ NHS, but the money raised for ACT goes that bit further, providing all the extras that make life that little bit better for patients and staff alike. I don’t plan on raising much, just a small gesture, and the irony is, I hope that nobody on here ever needs to be on the receiving end of another’s kindness. "
